How do you approach the topic of gluten free in a professional setting? Explaining it to your boss, your co-workers, your professors? It's not easy, but here are some quick tips that might help you:
Remaining Patient
For me, this honestly applies to every situation for me. Whether with casual or formal circumstances, it's vital to remember that people often don't get the gist of being gluten free the first time around, so if they continue to ask questions that might seem obvious, remain cool. Moreover, it means that they're attempting to understand and that they care enough to do so.
Keep it Simple
We don't need to confuse people further with the complexity of being gluten free, especially if it's for medical reasons. The inexplicable field of celiac genetics, etc., aren't needed during the first explanation. The most important thing is to mention that you don't eat gluten (you are not at all required to give any kind of explanation behind it) and afterwards state your boundaries, your terms.
Remain Positive!
Especially if you're newly diagnosed with celiac or still recovering from medical problems caused by gluten, it's important to remain professional and positive in this situation. Even if you're greatly struggling, it's not fair for them to become a landing place for your complicated emotions. Family is a different story, but in these circumstances, if you're asked about your experience (as someone newly making the switch), you can simply say: "Yes, it can be challenging sometimes, but I'm adjusting, and I'm feeling confident about the future." Additionally, you wouldn't even have to stretch the truth, because this sentence is completely valid. Despite how it might seem at first, you will push through any adverisites and will continue to live your best life yet 💛
Best of luck!
Until next time,
